@ Reinhardt : well I guess gearhead cleared the whole algorythm thing up, what I meant when I referred to plastic was that the wah/volume/expression controller is plastic the actual pedal housing is metal...well technically not plastic it's nylon composite stuff but still I would have been happier if it were metal ?
Reinhardt
haha yeah. I like that loopstation on the gt10 and the way it looks, the only thing the gt series needs, is a preamp valve? ?
Malkav
I would say the opposite, it sounds realistic as all hell without a preamp valve and if they did add a preamp valve then not only would the cost of the pedal go up drastically but it's another thing that can go wrong and cause issues over time.
More importantly I think it's important for manufacturers to stay digital when making digital effect pedals, it only means that they will be forced to work harder at perfecting the design and allowing amazing tone to be affordable and available to all the general public.
In fact as it stands I hope within the next 10 years or so valve amps will be abbolished entirely and all tones can be made perfectly digitally thereby bringing the costs of being a musician down and also eliminating hazardous factors when playing live etc. I personally couldn't afford all of the little things I use on my GT-10 and feel that in most cases even if I could I wouldn't because that would just mean more crap to lug around to gigs and more back problems to come. These days in the industry the emphasis is not only on ease of use but also miniaturising everything so that your complete gigging package becomes smaller and easier to transport.
If you look up some of the stuff line 6 is doing at the moment one of the more interesting technologies they're trying to perfect is a wall mountable flat screen of speakers, we're talking about something that's probably going to have dimensions like 40cmx40cm or 1mx1m and be so lightweight you could attach it to a wall with velcro but still get perfect tonal recreation. Musicians are lazy and don't want to carry heavy things everywhere and seeing as the average musician doesn't have a roady I think that this new technology is a great alternative to chyropractor bills and exhaustion before a gig even starts.

Talk to you in 10 years. Well maybe in five; you'll come around.

Sigh...don't be a noob, if digital pedals can mimic the characteristics of valve amps flawlessly then why have valve amps at all. They just cost alot of money and are F***ing heavy. I'm a huge fan of proper valve tone but realistically if you can recreate the tones without having to spend the excessive money and put your back out then why bother with a valve amp, the technology is becoming redundant and still isn't 100% reliable.
If someone wants to be the defender of a dying breed and still stick with the mindset that valve amps will never be perfectly digitally emulated then be my guest but the technology has come a long way and it's proving to be a very lucrative industrial trend meaning that most effects companies are now put large sums of money in their R&D department to try and create the best all round on board processors, it'll only be a matter of time before they manage to perfect what they've already evolved and once they do there will be no point to valve amps. I'm not saying it'll happen tomorrow but it will happen eventually.

many a person has predicted the death of valves for decades , point of the matter is i doudt it ever will , someone will say digital isn't what valve used to be and will switch back ........ it like rock music it will never die .

I've also given this thought. What if one day there are pedals or programs (or program-pedals like revalver 3 in a pedal ?!!) that can literally do what the analogue equipment does?
People started thinking that with the invention of the Line 6 gear that it was getting really close to it. But what I think is that you're trying to create something alive off something dead.
To put that into an analogy would be to say that the day building a robot that could do EVERYTHING a human can or even Cloning a human being becomes possible will be the day a company manages to directly translate the analogue 'feel' into a digital format 100% accurately.
(Then again...if cloning was possible, I'd be buying gear and using my cloning machine to clone them then take the gear back for a full refund ? and I'll have my very own version!)
Evolution is great but it's making humans lazy. The reason why humans get fat is because fast food and the car was invented. In the past people used to eat healthy and walk where ever they went because they had to, and burnt off calories in the process. Now they have to make time to walk before/after hours. I know the car is more convenient...but that's another discussion lol
But anyway what I'm trying to say is that there are just slight nuances that cannot be digitized (yet at least, or maybe even never, but maybe in the future, but we'll probably be dead in the future anyway).
With all due Respect to you, there is probably a more possible invention to help you lug around gear than there is to replicate it hehe. Me personally, I enjoy having to carry all that heavy gear (even though it does suck sometimes as most venues and practices are always upstairs!! WHY?) because it makes me a more fit, stronger and more patient human being lol ?

I agree, someday that day may come however I just think there's no point in arguing about a technological trend that will one day happen. For the most point I just get irritated when people seem to think that there opinion is the only one that counts and other people cannot have their own views because this is seen as folly.
I work for a company that makes me do nothing but lug around heavy shit all day long and because of this constant I've started having back problems etc already at the age of 20 also I'm not a very short person so back trouble kinda is inevitable I know one day when they make a digital pedal that can do all this shit I won't be complaining. I think laziness itself is mainly inherit in mindset though and someone who isn't lazy won't develop these problems just because their gear is suddenly lighter, remember we all have lifestyles and some differ from others so though you may perceive a lighter amp as a gateway to obesity I personally just look at it as a quality of life improving item.
deanBailey
Maybe you're carrying wrong, remember! Back straight and lift with your legs. hehe ?
Malkav
That is very possible...it's just hard to consider all these factors when you've gotta carry a Roland mini grand piano alone...

You do have rights - even as a casual. Refuse until they buy you a trolley.

I agree ?
In case you were referring to my post: I did not say things like folly. I've been in robotics for 10 years and 10 years before that people were already saying robots would do all sorts of things for humans; they still don't (other than some simple tricks in industry). What I'm saying is: if someone would be any good at predicting anything, the stockmarket would be a better place for him than the stage.

I was just playing with that lifting comment btw ? because I had nothing else to say.
Malkav
@gearhead - very true ? it would be nice to have some sort of overview of where technology in the guitaring field is heading but unfortunately most companies seem to prefer relying on the last minute mega hype new product route instead of explaining what their goals are with future endeavours no doubt because the last thing they want is one of their competitors beating them to the chase ?
