I have started an open group on Meetup.com aimed at amateur musicians in the North of Joburg. The next get together is 26 November, though there is only one spot left.

About the group
Making music is not only enjoyable, and for the lucky few, profitable, but it is also an incredible workout for your brain, emotions and psyche. It stimulates learning and memory as well as mood and emotion. Music is being used more and more for the treatment of depression, anxiety disorders, Alzheimers, bad breath and flat feet. I may have made some of those up.
Sadly, the perception is that music is only for “musicians” or for people with lots of money for hobbies. We believe that special talents are needed and decades of training and some other things that we don’t know what they are. One of the reasons could be our perception of musicians as celebrities, which forgets that most musicians are poor and unknown.
Many of us deny ourselves the wonderful benefits of making music because of these perceptions.
So our instruments gather dust, or we don’t even learn an instrument to start with. We don’t want to play with ourselves (so to speak), or take the trouble to learn and practice for the privilege of playing music that we found dull and lifeless.
So that’s what this is all about.
I want to create opportunities for music makers, from absolute beginner up, to join with others in making music. Rock, pop, metal, reggae, jazz and everything else. Nothing is off limits to us.
And we shall call ourselves recreational musicians.

NOTE: Each meetup will have a theme and songs chosen beforehand. Deadline for RSVP will be a few days before the meetup so that the songs can be arranged for us to get maximum playing time. Please listen to the chosen songs before you arrive so you can have a feel for them.
NOTE: Beginners are welcome
