When last did you challenge yourself, musically?

Not meaning specifically the challenge/competitions section - but in general, what musical goals did you set (&/or achieve)? It could be a course, a genre, a project/build, technique, song(s), etc... Late last year I decided that bass was the way forward. If I had to explain why, maybe a combo of feeling stagnant on guitar & I wanted to get back into a band - the last time I was in a band, I played bass (and had a great time!). Fast forward to August and I joined a band. WAY outside my comfort zone, Djent isn't something I'd ever considered. But the guys are great players and even nicer guys - and were prepared to let me learn 'on the job' =D. Whether or not I dig the music is immaterial, each week brings a fresh challenge, a new goal and I'm really digging that. Maybe it's a 15/4 or 7/4 time signature, a triplet run at 220bpm or something else I lacked in my skill set (or I deluded myself that I could do it, but couldn't) What are your challenges/goals? Or when last did you challenge yourself?
