Stoffeltoo : "little skit that doesn't sound shit..." - bwahahaha. You cracked me up completely with that, that's exactly what I feel when I try coming up with lyrics. And all at once, verse & chorus under 1min, very nicely done!

Wern101 : Best intro for a open mic nite, you get my "creative" award ? Great tongue in cheek lyrics!

Peterleroux : Sadly, you got put into Pool A as there were no other entries in the beginners category, but great stuff for your first entry - thank you and congratz for getting it in!

Studmissile : Genius, imho - your best recording yet! How did you do the guitar & vox - just a single condenser? Guitar sounded great and playing was super crisp and oh-so-clean. When are you gonna play a open mic night?

Thanks Wern, super bummed I couldn't get a fresh recording - I was really ripping into this piece last weekend, before I tweaked the back. But, I did get to re-learn it (I forgot the chords of my own composition!) and remind myself how much I enjoy nylon stringers ?

Meron, Superb playing sir! Really, really loved this Meron!

Me: I wish I could take credit for the recording but I did this a while back, at a guys home studio, he set it up and we recorded it on two pencil condenser mics, I did a couple of songs just acoustic guitar and vocals, and then dropped in some small harmonica solos.

Thanks and thanked. I 1st thought to do an Afrikaans song that I wrote for my wife a few years back but 1) wasn't sure which part to include in the 1 min timeframe and 2) had crippling self-doubt so decided to skip it and reinvent another song for this..

Pool A:
Peter le Roux, well done on tackling this finger style version of Danny Boy. I think you very brave and confident on doing this version. The recording exquisite in it's simplicity with every note clearly heard
I truly enjoyed it with a bit of envy.

Wern, Awesome song albeit filled with the typical song writer's frustration to a challenge. Cudo's on the rhythm guitar, nice and clear and a voice to match. I listened to this a couple of times and share your lament as reflected in my entry with own comments reserved

Pool B:
Stud! Oh my Goodness! You had me close to tears. :-[ The emotion evoked by the guitar and the voice had me in a place where I seldom go. I recently lost my Mom to cancer. The title is very applicable. I would love to hear the full version and well done. (Maybe a bit of clarity on the lyrics?)

Stud: Rasquedo heh? Difficult technique to master but you pulled it off with the percussion on the box. First time I heard silence to create tension. Nogal Nylon as well. Very lekker recording.

Well, thanks Stoffel - though I'd have felt a lot more Stud-ly if I had managed to get a fresh recording in 8)

Not realllyyy any Rasgueado technique in this, mostly strumming a 16th funk pattern with the occasional triplet strum (ala GyR) filling/accenting the transition between chords.

The percussion & pauses were completely spontaneous - it was a inspired take!

After some thought (in my case dangerous)
The challenge:
Do a piece reflecting the style of the guitarist or band which had the greatest influence on your playing style.
Multi tracking allowed but limited to four trax in the mix and two minutes long.
Original submissions and lyrics are allowed.
My suggestion and good luck.

sjoe...I would not be able to imitate those artists. It be WAY too difficult.

However, i think it's doable in the 'style' of what they did.

Sound like a challenge and a half!! Hope to be able to do it.

that's my feeling as well. also, to choose just one from the many? unfathomable... but i think this one i'm going to give a bash. last time i entered a challenge was 'woodstock,' about 713 years ago...

gonna have to dust off reaper - untouched for 18 months at least. does percussive maintenance work on a daw?
