Tidying neck pocket

My Classic Vibe Telecaster has a rather rough neck pocket- fit is good, but the base is rough with chisel marks, a lot like this Strat:

If I want to tidy this up myself, would I be in the clear using a small router (my Dremel with a router base) to lower the base down to below the chisel marks?

Would I need to shim the neck afterwards to get the height back up or as a mm either way within hte travel of the saddles to sort out?

If it was my guitar, if there were no tonal or structural issues I'd leave it, but if I wanted to go ahead with a repair I would not rout it out but rather fill the low spots with a filler made from Epidermix 372 epoxy and sawdust.

The neck is not very tight- I thought it was just loose in comparison to my bass, but my other electric (also a bolt-on) is much louder acoustically and has a stiffer neck joint.

Thanks for the epoxy suggestion- I was going to ask whether filling with a wood filler or other compound might be a better option

What about epoxy bedding the neck to the guitar to get a perfect fit?

I would also test this on some scraps of wood first

I was reading up on doing things that way Greg, I will test it first if I go that way-especially making sure that the release agent I use works. Will post pics of whatever I end up doing
