September Mini Challenge - "Open Mic Night"

Here we go...our next challenge!

Open Mic Night - enter whatever you can do live at a Open Mic. Band, Solo or use your looper pedal/fx's...just make sure you can pull it off live!

Even if you don't have any 'recording gear' - this is a great challenge to dip your toe into the recording pool...Use your cell phone or laptop mic, add in a dash touch of tweaking and you'll be amazed at what can be done - after all, recording is about capturing a magical performance?

Rules :
Any instrument, any genre
Original compositions encouraged (If you are going to do a cover, please choose one in the public domain for licensing purposes)
Max two tracks (DI your instrument and/or mic it up, or capture the live performance through a condenser mic)
Post processing is allowed (eq/mix/master/compression/etc...)
Submission not longer than 1 minute.

Would it be fair for me to enter? Thing is, while it's all played live with no looping or backtracks, it comes out more like a full band with guitar, bass, drums, synth and vocal harmonies.

Great list Greg, really useful - thanks! I'm okay with anything that wouldn't attract copyright issues, best to check per song if you are at all unsure.

Eeeennny meeenie miney moe... It's been a long while since I've had all the nylon stringers together - trying each one out to see which I'm gonna (ab)use this month. The 1/8 size GL-1 6 string uke or the 1/2 size Casa Antigua classic, 7/8 size Ricardo Montes or the full size Alahambra...Hmm, play testing meant the Casa dropped out - strings are dead. The Alahambra sounds great but I never really got into it. The GL-1 remains a blast to play...but none plays as sweetly as the Montes (alas, it sounds none too sweet, but I have a plan that might help)

Great! I have to get a couple of tracks ready for marketing myself anyway - easy enough to throw in an original.

Possibly... I was looking at ways to create a video yesterday. DSLR or tablet seem to be my choices (i.e. I've already got them). Recording the audio is no problem, but I am looking into open source software to edit the audio and video together.

Aaaannnddd? I had another run on that tiny GL-1, such fun - it shouldn't be, but it really is. If plan A doesn't work out, I've now got a Plan B 8)

Would be a excellent promo on FB for you? I've been needing to get into editing, but I honestly couldn't find anything in Windows that comes close to the Apple offerings. Tried some commercial stuff which was is pretty crappy (imo) and gave up. But I see that there is a new one "Blender" (https://www.blender.org/), maybe that'll be a bit more promising.

Meron here are my family

From Left - Yamaha G-230 from the 70's, Cheap Ibanez entry level, those ones that come with a bag and tuner etc, Takamine mid range and seated is the surprisingly big sounding 3/4 from Suzuki.

All stay in tune. The Ibanez is the one I grab off the wall most of the time. surprisingly great tone for such a cheap guitar.

The Takamine is a thing of beauty and I keep in the case!

Yamaha needs a bit work but I would say it has the best tone out of all of them

Niiicceeee, at first glance I reckoned the Ibby was the player of the bunch - the neck looks easy playing?

My 1/2 is also loud, something about the shorter scale on a nylon that makes them boom a bit more? I'd say the Tak would be my daily weapon, played a few at Music Experience and thought that they made interesting nylons...but then I played a Casimi parlour nylon and I started saving up.

Reckon I've got a guitar chosen and a piece to play. Now arrangement, practice and -argh- engineering & recording a decent performance.
