Looking out for my stolen Taylor 214CE-G

Hi fellow guitar lovers, I thought it would never happen to me but it did. 2 weeks ago my guitar (Taylor 214CE) got stolen out of my flat in Table View, Cape Town. I know who took it but there is no sign of him anymore. It was my roommate's boyfriend (they were dating for 2 weeks and then ran off with most of our valuables including my guitar). This all happened while I was travelling and my girlfriend was visiting family. My guitar was taken out of its flight case so when my girlfriend went to check on the flat everything seemed fine as the case was standing at the exact same place and everything was untouched. We have found most of the stuff back in a secondhand store close to our flat but the guitar is still nowhere to be found. I don't ask you to feel sorry for me, I'm just warning you to look out for a secondhand Taylor guitar, model 214CE-G, serial number: 2102031167 It has a small ding on the headstock and a very slight cut in the top of the body, in the right corner. Arggh, hope the universe rewards the thief with a well deserved beat-down. I have let Graham as The Gear Junkie (loads of 2nd hand gear) know about it - He has had the good fortune of re-uniting stolen goods and rightful owners.

Always a good idea is to canvas the Cash Convertors/Crusaders/Pawn stores in the area(s) with some flyers. Also chat to Tony at the Guitar Center (Now in Langebaan), he also does 2nd gear and will keep an eye out for you.

Thank you for the tips. I already emailed the head office of cash crusaders last week but they have not gotten back to me. Already checked all the pawn shops in the area and nothing there...

There is no longer a Guitar Center in Parklands? How can I get hold of him? Do you know the address in Langebaan?

Dissapointing thing about karma is that one is usually not around to see the effect that the causation warrants.

Yeah, Tony moved out to Langebban recently, seems like Guitart Center is no more - here's his new website For "Guitar Pro Langebaan" : http://langebaanguitars.co.za/

No idea about George and Mosselbaai, but Knysna has one : http://wikivillage.co.za/symphony-of-sounds. Fairly sure they do 2nd hand stuff too.

They should be willing to help, if not I'll ask Graham to poke them - they owe him one for sorting out a bunch of new gear that someone scammed out of them.

Thank you so much for all the help and support. My guitar has been spotted by a fellow musician at a secondhand shop at Montague Gardens! I have no words, I'm very lucky!!

I'm currently waiting for the police to confiscate it, will probably only be next week because they are slow.

Good news is that my Taylor is coming home with me soon ?

I might be worth confronting the shop right away. I once found something of mine in a pawn shop and confronted them with evidence that it was mine. The couldn't give it back to me faster. They seemed to have been in a panic to not get police involvement

Yes I have approached a pawn shop before about some stolen property. They requested a Police case number and some evidence of ownership, i.e. serial numbers description.

That's great news, nice to get something back that was gone or lost for while.

That's great news Julie.

Personally I would get the cops involved. From experience, pawn shops may (nowadays) not buy something from an individual without having that person's ID details. This measure has been brought in specifically to curb crime.

Therefore, the cops could also track the people who brought the guitar to the shop, and hopefully, serve some justice.

My 2 cents.
