This is a very good question for those living in SA.
I suggest you start by playing around, fixing and modifying your personal guitars and then those guitars of friends around you to build up your knowledge and experience. Guitar techs are not necessarily luithers, however they need to understand the basics and be able to perform some repairs on the spot if needed, as well as have an understanding on amplification basics (general sound set-up knowledge is also necessary).
I look forward to see the responses that will come in. MOst people on the forum I am sure would not mind being a guitar tech for a famous guitarist.
