Hey guys,

I'm writing this from Algarve, Portugal. We've been in Portugal for almost 3 weeks now and it's been pretty rad.

But I'm missing my guitars. I don't gig or anything but I kinda just feel the need to play something. Maybe even moreso here than back home.

What do you do to get your "music hit" when you're travelling without your gear?

Click your fingers? or whistle a tune? Don't they have some pawn shops with some cheapies for "in the meantime"?

Not much replaces some strings & frets for me, though I've often contemplated harmonica.

Do you have an ipad? Download garageband and play around. I can spend hours on that app just creating drum tracks and then adding some bass tracks. Then you got some cool back tracks for when you get back to your guitars!

Travelling to Moz soon for work. Uke will be in my luggage 8)

The humidity is a guitar killer if you're near the coast in Moz. And if you're going to be in "expat contractor" accommodation their aircon habits are also usually deadly

Yeah I considered that but we're moving around too much for the time being for that to work.

Kind of like a working holiday. I work in the day and go out at night and on the weekends.

Some days I even don't work. Those are my favourite ?

If all goes to plan, I'll next see SA shores around early-to-mid 2017. Exciting times!

Part of the dream was to learn local styles of music while we're travelling but I don't know if that'll be possible coz we keep moving.

Next week we move to Funchal (a Portuguese island) for a month. That should give us some room to commit to language and music lessons, etc.

I had the same problem when in Ireland so I sought out music shops and played their guitars in the shops. Not sure how many music shops there are in Funchal though!

Good idea, Johnny. I was also thinking of booking "lesson rooms". I know Jean Village in Centurion has these. I'll have to see if they have them in Funchal.
