Well they're back with a bang eh?

Metallica's sound (and James's voice) is so iconic. 8)

I think I still prefer the 'older' stuff they did, but this is very cool!

Love the old Metallica stuff. They lost the plot after their Black LP. This kinda sounds like the Master of Puppets era stuff. Not bad! ?

generic sounding, ill keep listening to the pre black album records when every song was memorable and had a few tasty riffs and licks that got stuck in your head.

Reminds me slightly of Garage Days, without the thrashy raw-ness.

And I miss that, this sounds over-produced and - I agree, generic.

Funny I've always enjoyed Metallica right up to S&M? My favorite is Lightening and Masters, but I really loved Load & Reload (Load more so), it was far from thrash, but their musical exploration started to feel infinite and refreshingly aware of "breaking new ground"? S&M was sublime! I didn't mind their stuff since, but I feel it lost its originality and went back over ground they had already tread? Still a great band, I guess thanks to Lightening, Masters, Black & Justice they'll always be.

Load and Reload were my personal fav's too. Probably because those were the first Metallica (metal of any sort) albums I ever had. But many bands have this 'breaking new ground' thing happening and with that they loose old fans and gain new ones. I suppose that's part of the band life cycle...

I think the album will be more diverse.

Atlas Rise: Typical Metallica. Love it! Killer riffs and solo's and James's iconic vocals have done it again. And that tone!! This reminds so much of the previous stuff. The boys have gotten old though....

My honest opinion? They have gone back to their roots. It incorporate a lot of elements of Ride the lightning, Master of the Puppets and the Justice for all albums. It's better than their last 3 albums which in my opinion was totally over hyped and failed to impress. ?
