+1, with one caveat. Play guitars that are both above and below your budget. You could find a huge bargain, and have money left over for other toys, or you could find yourself something fantastic that is ab-so-freaking-lootly worth the extra cash.
And remember; the ticket price is probably not the cash price, especially if you can see the guitar has been in the store for a while (
older strings, a little dust, etc - although in a decent music store, you shouldn't find either of these problems at your budget level). But bargain with the salesman.
