As a fan of live albums, I was click-baited into the Rolling Stone Magazine 50 best live albums of all time...Reaallllllyyyy, I *should* know better than to take Rolling Stone mag seriously...

But I did...and was rather confused how SRV's 1985 Monteaux show isn't there and Jimi only makes one appearance. And more surprised at No.1, which I shouldn't be as I'm a massive fan ?

Bought this second-hand from what I thought was the Holy Grail Shop -- 2nd hand CDs that a teenager like me could actually afford. Love almost everything on this CD. First taste of some of the bands I still adore today.

Dream Theater - Live at Budokan

The playing is just great, and given that it's pretty much all of the train of thought album that's a plus cause I wasn't mad about Kevin Shirley's production choices and the recorded version and this just has more "life". The live version of Hollow Years is great too, Petrucci's solo at the end is really cool.

Shawn Lane - Powers of 10 Live

It was the album that really got me hooked on his playing, I think I also prefer the production to the recorded version here as well, and I think that some of the improvised moments on it are just godlike, but it's Shawn Lane so could you really expect less than that? ?

If you extend best live albums beyond guitar, I'd also add Tori Amos Live at Montreaux 91/92. The 1991 performance is especially powerful.

I was at university when Springbok Nude Girls were climbing the charts. I was gifted a copy of Springbok Nude Girls Live at the Astoria, a performance from 2007. It brings back some great memories.
