Recently I fell in love. Again. I was listening to a 6hr mix on soundcloud when a melody jumped out and blitzed my brain. It was a horn section with a ridiculously funky melody.
And all I wanted to do was figure out how to get that rhythmic feel (phrasing) into my playing. So cue up the track and jam like a demon until I started to get a little of that flavour into my phrasing.
And then I realized...I'm playing. Actually playing with music. Like I used to a looonnnggg time ago when a simple sound entertained me for hours and I'd experiment freely without judgement - just like when I was a beginner and it all was magic 8)
Yes, music is art. Yes, music is important. Though somewhere - amongst the gear, marketing and millions of youtube's - I forgot...music is play.
