While this may be better suited in the SMR board, I'd rather post it here as a general observation and leave the SMR board for some build threads.
I've done a little fiddling on my guitars, small mods and most recently a refinish that is a work in progress.
A few of the things I've noted (and feel free to add your own).
1. Do the research. There's no such thing as a stupid question, ask away. But make sure you do a search before posting it to avoid reposts and inaccurate answers. Still stuck? Ask.
2. Plan properly. This includes a step by step path that you'll take when doing something. It doesn't have to be down to the tiniest detail, but just a good plan of action.
3. Do some more research. There's usually more than one way to skin a cat.
4. Make sure you have all the tools and supplies you need before you start. Nothing quite as frustrating as fining that the tool you got needs a two prong adapter, and you don't have one. This applies for many things though.
5. Don't be in a rush. Patience is the golden word. Slow and steady wins the race, take your time and do it right the first time.
