Also great to hear how different people take the same rhythm track in different directions
+1, had me thinking it would have been great to only have one track as the challenge, although I expected people to continue on developing their Part I entries, so to encourage entries I thought that it would help to have all Part I entries eligible for Part II.
Thought I'd share my 0.02c on the individual tracks :
Norman86 : You showed the kind of restraint that I sometimes wish I could exhibit. Simple and effective bass line accompanied the loop very nicely. The lead had a touch too much something (vibrato effect?) but worked nicely - by playing less you said more? Great to have you entering!
Eujean : You had me at the piano, I R a sucker for keys! Then the bass line kicked in and I was hooked (and clearly biased ?). Really nice work on the key's and arrangement...and all done with a rocksmith cable? I could mention the lead tone needed something to glue it into the rest of the track (I was thinking a little reverb and a bit of tinkering with cab sim?) but nothing a few plug-ins and a bit of youtub'íng can't quickly sort.
Tokyopop : Yowzers, first few notes of that lead had me instantly thinking Satriani. Lovely, syrupy legato goodness - coooooool tone - almost synth-y? Add in some great fingers and it worked great with Stud's track. However, it wasn't a tune...if you had added another section that would have made voting impossible.
Studmissile : You had me pulling out a lighter and waving it around - t'was a heartfelt piece that your vocals took to another level. You have the singer/songwriter vibe waxed...grab Toyko's solo, Norm's bass line, retain your melody line, throw it all mixer and see what happens - that could get some radio play...?
Well, as crass as it may seem to comment on one's own track...it hasn't stopped me yet : Subtle, like a brick to the face. About as polished as one too. And I milked that one riff/loop for everything I could. But I reckoned the formulae to Punk is : Keep it simple and faster + louder = better. :?
