Hi all

I am a noobie to guitar playing. About to go for my first lesson. Looking to buy an acoustic electric. Been told a Cort is a good starter guitar however saw this deal

I think you should ask your teacher who will be giving you lessons to go with you to a few music shops. Ask for guitars in your budget. Then you pick up and hold the guitar in the playing position and just feel if everything feeld great and comfortable.
Then ask your teacher to play on it and give you his/her honest opinion about the guitar.
Go home, sleep on it and then decide.

Just buying and not trying may end up costing you a lot more in the end.

Thanks, did exactly that, tried a few at Paul Bothners yesterday but only Corts and Greg Bennets. They don't stock the Tanglewood.

They all felt comfortable. And being new at this it's difficult to know what sound to listen out for.

Go to Music Experience too. Try out their Alvarez guitars and the other stuff they have. Great store with very reasonable prices.

Hi welcome

A dreadnought has a large box, designed to give a loud sound without the need to amplify. However they can be uncomfortable to play if you are small in stature, especially when sitting. The box is also quite deep so the strings are far away from your body. I have an Ibanez Dreadnought, the box is 130mm deep.

Once I starting doing gigs it just didn't work for me, added to the fact that it wasn't electro-acoustic so trying to stand in front of a mic became an issue. I then went to a much shallower 80mm Yamaha APX-6 in a smaller OM (orchestra model with cutaway) electro-acoustic and never looked back. Not as loud unplugged, but then that is why you want electro-acoustic, to plug in when needed and quieter when practicing.

Music Experience have the full range of Alverez for you to find the best match. Also look at neck width, to suit the size of your hands. I prefer necks narrower, 42 mm on the Ibanez and 45mm on the Yamaha, my latest Faith Guitar is 43mm which is ideal for me. You need to be able to comfortably play F using a Barre chord, i.e. your index finger across all the strings, so the strings not too wide apart, but still have enough space for you to place you fingertips on each string without muffling the sound

I am a big bloke, 6ft 6in so relatively big hands. I am going to Music Experience at lunch time today to check out a few guitars. Hopefully be able to find something in my budget.
