Hello. I've been a member for a few months. I haven't been very active thus far, but might spend some more time on here in the next few months.

I currently stay in Jhb.

Progressive rock/metal, jazz and classical music are probably my favourite genres of music, but I appreciate good artistry from any genre. I try to watch a few live classical performances each month, so that is mostly what I watch live.

I started playing guitar ten years ago. With a five year gap of no playing in between. Picked up the guitar again a few month ago and I'm enjoying it a lot. I currently only have an Epiphone acoustic guitar, but I am getting an electric setup sorted with a 7 string partcaster and maybe a Pod HD to follow soon (looking for one at the moment).

Besides guitar I am very much in to high fidelity audio. I use to work in the audio industry recording and mixing music and doing live sound reinforcement. I no longer do that professionally however I still have an interest in the field.

I have co-built a some high end loudspeakers and have done a few other interesting (to some at least) things involving audio. (I might post some threads on these at a later stage).

I've co-built a pair of Zaph audio ZRT's and a clone of the ATC SCM100's (using ATC drivers, but our own enclosure and crossovers).

Soon I will be assisting with building another pair of ZRT's, so I could post a build thread.

I also have some measurements of the control room monitoring system of studio 1 at Bop studios too which some might like to see. I had some impulse files (done by someone else one day we had a session there) of the live room too, which I may be able to post for the guys that want to pull them into their DAW's impulse verb. Amazing room designed by master acoustician Tom Hidley.

Give me a few days though, quite busy at work at the moment.

Are you interesting in audio beyond playing guitar too Meron?

Btw, I am 23. I'm excited to get back into electric guitar.

Being a student I currently do not have enough cash to have an all analog setup with pedal train (not that I think it is inherently necessary, but it is fun), which is why I plan on going the Pod route now.

Thank you. Recording is great fun. The last recording session I did was about mid 2015 though. I don't have much time to record at the moment, but I look to do the odd session with a friend when the opportunity arises.

For sure, the more I learn - the more that I don't know fascinates me ?

I've been trying to get Wizard to put together some speaker cabs for his project hifi (and tweaking his arm to try a mini tube amp build w/cab). So if you do get around to posting up a build or two, hopefully it'll help the arm tweaking process!

We should get Wizard to put together those hi-fi speakers.

A mini tube amp with cab (I'm assuming guitar amp) would be awesome too.

With the way the exchange rate has gone DIY hi-fi has become quite expensive.

I've been itching to do a tube guitar amp build too, though I don't think I'll get to that any time soon. I don't know much regarding circuit design. I have a friend that can help on that front should I want to do that one day.

I've been thinking about making an interesting guitar cab. Either an

omni speaker cab

an open baffle "cab"

or a a line array

We'll see, mainly I have this idea of reusing lots of old full range drivers and putting them together in some frankenstein cab to see what comes out on the other side. So in the meanwhile I'll be on the look out for old unused drivers, not even specifically guitar cab drivers, even hi-fi drivers as I could run the POD HD with cab simulation activated through such a cab made of hi-fi drivers.

I'll either run the POD HD with cab sim activated into a hi-fi amp and then into the cab, or I'll plug a guitar amp directly into the cab. So in the meanwhile I'll be on the look out for old unused drivers.

I got some audio projects from a fellow member (guitar pedals and guitar tube amps in various stages of completion), but I barely know the safe end of a soldering iron, so it's been slow going.

There's a group of DIY'ers hanging out at the gear junkie - so we get together and bounce idea's around. 1/10 times something actually gets done - resulting in some bizarrely wonderful creations. Danienel's kasparov chessboard guitar, Wizard's awesome violincaster, we did the "bat-strat" & pimpocaster and even a guitar made of of a piece of scaffolding plank (aka 'Les Plank'). Then lapdawg and Rikus put us to shame with their guitar builds!

Oddly enough, I havn't seen many putting together any cabs from scratch - which puzzles me. (Aside from lapdawg)

Love the idea of a open baffle speaker - looks great! Good luck finding drivers - I've been scavenging old hifi speakers that pass through, but as soon as the drivers are available, people buy em.

That sounds interesting. Are some of these on threads here in the forum? I would like to see some of these creations.

I think I'll end up doing an open baffle design because it will be easiest to assemble a test rig. We'll see what drivers and wood I can get. I'm not even particularly looking for high end drivers. Any drivers I can find here and there, even small cheap drivers that one finds in radios, computer speakers, etc. Anything I can find at this point. When I do get to that I will definitely post a build thread.
