If you a rhythm track figured out. Is it easier/better to do the drums after the rhythm track? Or should you start off with the percuasion?
From my reading - most studio guys will work out a click track (metronome) for the entire piece they are tracking. They'll work this out from a jammed recording (or rough draft/sketch) and they'll track drums to the click. Then other instruments. Sometimes they're all live in the room together too - but there's still a click going...
So I do a bit of jamming, usually with a drum pattern - this helps me figure out the BPM that I'm comfy playing at & gives me a good idea of what drum pattern I'm aiming for. I might get a click going with the drums, or maybe just a click.
Rhythmically I tend to feed off the drum pattern, so I find that things might change a bit as I go through drums patterns - If you recorded a rough draft (solo or w/click), referring back to it can help ya stay on track (or maybe a different drum pattern will inspire something cooler - happens to me all the time!)
Then I start putting together the musical lego...Usually in the order of : drums, bass, guitar, vocals.
When recording - sometimes I have the click & drums (+other instruments) going and sometimes just the drums - whatever works at the time. If I'm having a particularly good day the click disappears (I no longer notice it) and I know I'm in the zone. Yeahhh welll...maybe once a year... ?
