I have an AC15C1 which is in need of some TLC.
The master volume pot is rather scratchy, I am going to assume that it will need to be replaced or at least cleaned by a tech. (There is no way in hell I'm going to be poking around in the guts of a tube amp!!!)
Also, I think the amp is in need of replacement tubes. I have noticed a drop in output power and the amp is distorting significantly earlier. I need to get my headroom back!
The stock tubes are all JJ, three 12AX7s and a pair of EL84s. I am open to trying another brand as long as the cost is similar, otherwise I plan on purchasing a replacement set from MrValve (or someone who sells tubes in Cape Town). I am not particularly interested in NOS tubes, and I am looking for clean headroom rather than an earlier breakup.
Thanks! ?

Unlikely to have gone through those tubes even if it was the first AC15C1 ever built. The headroom may be missing for the same reason power is missing - defect in power supply. Get a tech to replace the pot and check the PSU and you're A for away for less than new tubes will set you back.
If you MUST buy a new tube, get a 5751 and play around with which 12ax7 you replace. An old time fav in the AC is the phase inverter tube.
