"Cables can distort the sound of your guitar by pushing the mids up and turning the highs down. Elixir™ Cables features a unique cable technology that fixes this problem by delivering the lowest capacitance and truest voice of your guitar. "
Lets hear your views....
Do good quality cables really make a difference? , and does it justify the extra money spent on quality Cable....
Manfred-Klose
Yes, it does.
I noticed it when recording, i use to have have some of those basic made up cables, then desided to get some quality neutrik connectors and good lead.
The quality cable added clarity, while the cheap cable made it sounding dull and added noise.
It's all worth the money, a great investment i would say.

I have a couple " George L's " which is basically a cable without the soldering and I have to admit, it's almost as if the "sinus" my amp has dissappeared.

All that said I purchased a set of Vox cables and these are the noisiest cables I've ever come across. Any crossing or loops created unwanted noise and clicking as they're moved or move.
Never used those thin kit cables either, only used GroovePlugs and Neutrik. My GroovePlug cable is 9 years old and hasn't missed a beat.

Extremely short of sleep and already into the manic stage of the proceedings. Experience tells me I'm a few hours away from feelings of Deja vu and hallucinatory flashbacks. 8)

I got you on that one... today feels like some sadistic individual decided to loop the tape of my life. From Pause to Repeat One. I may have to go and buy someone new batteries for that remote.

Oh Oh Oh !
I was meant to ask this before. Ok, i got an entry-mid level guitar (R4000 new). I play it with a low quality cable and a decent one of about R175. I notice nothing noticeably different about the sound with the better cable. Is it more noticeable with better guitars or am I a acute sufferer of tonealiticus deaficous

a friend of mine uses mogami gold guitar cable. He got this when he stayed in London.
Also have a look at planet waves monster cable!

Mmm... The problem with this kind of stuff is that guitar sound is a combination of things - mainly guitar, amp and cable. The sound is dependent on all three working together and can only be as good as the weakest link. A change in one might not be obvious because something elsewhere is masking the effect. You might change your amp sometime and all of a sudden you'll hear the difference between cables as being obvious. While problems are often the cable, it's not always them - it can be anything in the chain. Of course, add a couple of effects pedals into the equation and short jumper cables to connect them together, and the whole equation suddenly gets even more complex.
Cables are usually prime suspects for being the culprits (but not always guilty) as it's funny how someone will spend a boatload on a guitar and amp and next to nothing on a cheap cable to connect them together. Also, things like cables and amp valves can wear out, but they tend to do it gradually, so you're not aware of it until you change one of them and all of a sudden it's like someone took the blankets off the speaker.
Your "ears" do get better the longer you muck about with all this audio stuff too. I say "ears" because in reality, your ears get worse as time marches on ...but your perception of sound gets better as you learn what to listen for. You get attuned to things, especially if you play the same gear for years (something not many players do anymore). I used to play with a guitarist that had used the same Strat and silverface Fender Twin since he bought them new in '68. He knew them so well, that long before I could hear anything, he'd know the amp was going to die within the next few gigs. Not only that, but he knew why - usually down to which valve was dying! ???

the only difference Ive ever noticed is the cheaper stuff makes weird noises if you jump around excessively ? other than that the distortions too loud to tell ?

? You played with Eric Johnson?!? I never knew..... :goodtimes:
Eric Johnson? I'd assumed Alan was referring to David Lindley who not only has the same knack of knowing when a valve is about to kick the bucket, but also believes that valves sound best just before they die. He relishes this situation where you knew your amp has only one or two gigs in it but is sounding fantastic.

Lol! Can you imagine? ? No, an old rock 'n roller called Colin Smith - had a penchant for the Merseybeat bands and the Shadows.

Interesting - didn't know that. Makes sense, I know he had Howard Dumble tweak each of his amps for one specific guitar...
