Fender Amp Volume Mod

as stated in the 'downside to your gear' thread the volume on my Fender amp annoys me, 0 is off, 1 is too loud (for around the house).

there is the pot in question, says 15A50K. busy chatting with my electronics buddy as to what he thinks will be the better option.

will post when we do it and how it turns out if anyone is interested.

This may be a stupid question eh, but why don't you put a resistor (10k) in series with the pot?
It does change the 'fully open' amplification but that you can probably make up for elsewhere (tone section). It does not change the fully closed significantly. It does require you to further open the pot to get the same volume which might get it into a more controllable region. Plus, it's a cheap and easily reversible mod.

A (probably) means Audio taper which is correct, so it's not the incorrect taper issue as we discussed in the other thread. I think GH is right - a series resistor (maybe switchable though) is probably the way to go.

It would be great to see a schematic of the input circuit of the Fender. It should be quite easy to change the gain characteristics of the input stage (and make it switchable). Usually one resistor change on the first op amp.

It shouldn't be too difficult to find a diagram and it would be far neater to replace a resistor on the PCB.
