Went to Guitar shop to buy my first set of Elixir strings for my Electro Acoustic. I was bit surprised to find that there are 2 types of Elixirs,
Nanoweb and Polyweb.
The salesman couldn't really tell me the difference except that the Nanowebs are squeakier than the Polywebs.
Their internet page kind of says the same thing.
Anyone have experience with these strings? What should I get?
Elixir strings are coated - this is what gives them the longer life (and it is significantly longer).
My understanding is that the Polywebs have a thicker coating.
I would think that the thicker coating would have the effect of "filling in" the space between the windings to a greater exent, thus reducing finger squeak, but that there would also be more of a trade-off in tone.
There might also be a difference in feel that may appeal or not appeal to some players.
I am using Nanowebs at the moment and there is a little more finger squeak than with Polywebs - though less than with a good quality non-coated string.
Of course "tone" and "feel" are subjective. What works for one player may not work for another.
