My Yamaha Pacifica 904 is a 4 pickup guitar. The first two pickups are right up against each other at the bridge. The concept is: you hit the push-push pot, and both pickups are on - acting as a powerful humbucker. Hit it again, and only the pickup nearest to the bridge is on, giving a hot single coil with none of the weakness of a split humbucker.
