i have made 2 jigs to cut the top and bottom profiles of the center piece. from the blank. After a couple of passes, its done and has come out nicely.
I was hoping to see the dark glue lines more clearly between the maple and walnut. It may be more visible when its finished.
Anyway, these are the 2 Korina blanks that will attach to the center piece. I have to glue them and profile them 1 at a time so that the router bearing will fit. My design specifically worked these widths to this router bit. This is the longest bit available:
The center piece is taped off to keep glue out of the grain. This needs to keep its clean line. The router bearing will follow it.
.. And glued to the first side piece.
After 24hrs, I start with Robot sanding to take off the bulk of the Korina edge.
This shows the half mm lip after robo sanding. It means that the router has little work to do and can cut cleanly and smoothly.
Done.
The other Korina piece has been glued and after 24 hrs, will get exactly the same treatment.
I have also quickly done the "wings" - same technique - bandsaw, robosand to 1/2mm & then flush cut with the spiral router. This router bit is perfect and shaves the wood very cleanly.
