Thank goodness I usually see sense at the end of the day.
Is this a problem? Will it be with me for the rest of my life? ?
Sadly I have to inform you that: yes, it is a problem and yes, it will stay with you for the rest of your life. I honestly believe that the whole GAS-thing is a sort of addiction. I'm not joking. It's amazing how flexible a budget can be when you want someting bad enough. I guess that, like with any other addiction, that thing becomes the most important thjing in your mind and will haunt you untill you get it. ?
I've been dealing with GAS in this way: Because all of my income is generated through music I put aside a certain amount of what I make to buy new tools. I learnt this from my dad back when he had a small metal-working business he ran in his spare time. This keeps me from getting bad attacks of GAS because I'm always working on my next purchase and can see my savings for it grow. And I can justify it because it's for work. These days part of the joy in the whole thing for me is to do my research thoroughly while I'm still saving. Doing this has actually helped because on a couple of occasions I've found cooler stuff that I was originally gonna buy that will let me do things that one of my next purchases was gonna do, helping me to sort of get 2 things crossed off my list instead of just one.
I've also learnt not to sell anything, no matter how much I think I don't need it anymore. I've regretted selling stuff the moment after I did so on every occasion.
