Windows 10 and GT-100

Hi Guys

now that Windows 10 is rolling out I seriously suggest you check all your software is compatible before you upgrade.

It was only once I had completed the upgrade I found the GT-100 drivers are not yet available, so I cannot use the USB connection for patch changes and Boss Tone Studio.

My RC-300 works fine as the USB link is only for file sharing.

I also had problems with some of my software. Rocksmith amongst others became painfully slow and un-responsive. Not even the bare minimum settings helped much. I tried rolling back to Win-7 and it told me my files were missing, even though I could see the folders. I couldn't roll back no matter what I tried (and there is supposed to be a 30 day window). Eventually I tried installing the 64-bit version but again my programs were slow. I ended up making backups of what was still salvageable, wiped the drive and re-installed win-7. I don't have uncapped data so there is a nice suprise waiting for me at the end of this month >☹

I heard on the radio that Windows 10 is about 4 gig

Windows 10 will be on a year by year subscription basis from what I've heard so it will always be up to date.

there is NO year on year subscription for windows 10.
It is a free upgrade for win 7 and 8.1 sp1 for the first year, afterwhich you are required to buy the software outright as with any other windows version.

It seems that folks are confused by the wording of the upgrade. They are offering the upgrade free, no additional costs after a year. However this free offer is only valid for a year. If you have not upgraded by this time next year you are going to have to buy it

It is a big upgrade. What you can do is if you have access to an uncapped line, i.e. adsl or work, download the ISO file onto a USB stick. (google windows 10 iso download) This will create a bootable USB stick that you can plug into any PC and do the upgrade.

Before doing this you would need your previous key from your Windows 7/8 installation. Also check with the manufacturer if your particular model is Windows 10 ready. I checked my wife's DELL Inspiron on the DELL website and it is not ready for Windows 10. They haven't updated the drivers yet. If you try enter the key in this case the installation will tell you that it is invalid. I suspect that once the drivers are ready, DELL will submit their key range to Microsoft to allow the upgrade.

Windows 7 Home can only be upgraded to Windows 10 Home.

I like this upgrade, it is quicker and they have removed some of the irritating Windows 8 things like that massive blue screen on Start, and the requirement to hover the mouse in the top right hand corner to get to the power and control panel settings etc. The start button is all you need as you did with windows 7 and before.
