Hi folks.
I noticed a peculiar issue on my tele the other night. When I’ve got my drive pedals engaged my guitar still outputs a signal, even though the pot is fully turned off. It only happens, or rather is only audible, when I’ve got my drive pedals engaged boosting the volume. When I plug the guitar straight into the amp though, sans pedals, it seems quiet. Seems like with a bit of boost though it becomes audible.
I’ve done a bit of googling and it seems like I might have a grounding issue on the guitar circuit? Electronics is a bit like paint by numbers for me. I can follow a circuit diagram, but I have no idea what I’m doing. Is there any way that I can for example test that the pot is good with it all still soldered up or do I need to disconnect the pot and then measure continuity across the poles to check that the pot actually sweeps properly? I’d appreciate a tip or two on how to troubleshoot this.
If it’ll help it’s a standard circuit that I got of the seymor Duncan site. Two humckers, 1 vol, 1 tone and 3-way switch.
Cheers!
You need to disconnect the pot completely to measure it usually. Depends on the circuit. The multimeter is going to give you the smallest resistance it can "find" between the two probes. Maybe posting the circuit here will help.
