I've never learned a whole song from beginning to end. Just always got bored or something I guess. So I got Rocksmith to fix that... And it has BROKEN me!...

We have had visitors at home since Friday :-[, could not even touch the guitar or the game! Looking forward to this evening ?. By the way my coach reckons RS is a pot of crock "there is only one way to learn"...yeah, all right. I will keep going for lessons though, will just not bring up the topic of GS again.

I mentioned the game to my teacher and his opinion was anything that makes you or helps you pickup the Guitar more often is a great help. The game might not inspect and scrutinize technique but it keeps you playing.

Totally agree!

Guitar can become horrible if you're only focused on perfect technique. Rocksmith makes it a ton of fun again. Plus, once you have a bunch of songs under your belt, the incentive to improve technique is built-in because playing songs you know is fun.

Of course, I come from a background of having lots of lessons and a teacher who taught me lots of important stuff and introduced me to great players like Satriani, etc.

That kinda thing is important and might not happen with just Rocksmith. I would probably have stuck to well-known players and not really explored other players or styles as much.

So everything has its place.

I, for one, plan on going back to lessons once I'm "good again" at guitar and can play 10-20 "hard" songs quite well.

There's no replacing a teacher.

Hi maybe someone can help, how do you figure out the strumming on the game? I mean, you see strumming "bricks" fly towards you, but are they up or down strums? Managed to work out the riff repieter ?, very nice!

If you figure out the strumming let me know, as it is the one thing I found to be missing.

I don't know of a official way of knowing this either.

So I normally do it by ear. I have a habit to alternate pick (and alternate strum) by default but it often doesn't sound right, so I experiment and try get the "groove" by listening to the song.

This might not be a "straight" answer but it's good to train your ear to hear the strumming pattern.

I've clocked 22 hours on this game and my playing has improved DRASTICALLY.

One thing I'd recommend to someone starting out is to focus on rhythm (or bass) not lead inititally.

It gets you used to the game MUCH faster and with WAY less pressure than using "lead guitar" mode to get used to it.

When I was trying to perfect lead parts, riff-by-riff, I almost wasn't having fun because, on top of not knowing the part, I was still struggling with the way the game works.

I still get confused at times but it's WAY less now.

So year, that's my big tip. Play the game in rhythm mode until you've "mastered" some songs. Especially some of the faster ones with a few "extra" notes on other strings.

You'll save yourself a LOT of trouble doing it this way and end up a lot less frustrated and less likely to give up.

PS. Have I mentioned that this game is the best. game. ever.? ?
