I've never learned a whole song from beginning to end. Just always got bored or something I guess. So I got Rocksmith to fix that... And it has BROKEN me!...

Has free DLC, to get customforge dlc to work you do need to tamper with your game a little but they do have alot of DLC.

I personally have two installation of Rocksmith 2014 one cracked to allow access to customforge dlc and one normal as I've bought alot of DLC

Haha, congrats ez!

I spent 2 hours playing yesterday. Those GuitarCade games are really cool. They really help you improve certain techniques.

Just for a challenge, I tried the beginning of Satch Boogie at 1% speed but 100% difficulty.

HOLY CRAP! That was hard.

But with a bit of practise, I think I could get that riff down and then move on to the next. Exciting stuff!

Ja, I'm quite keen on this. I'm also quite keen to try the multiplayer option with the Miss on bass. We'll need another cable. Could make for some fun evenings drinking and jamming some cheezy songs* haha.

Oh yeah, totally with you. If only I can get my missus to start playing bass. She's more into piano.

(I'd love something like Rocksmith for Piano! ? Would probably need a serious microphone or an electric piano DI'ed into a laptop or something. Don't think we'll see that one any time soon.)

Perhaps check out songs2see on steam not a game like Rocksmith but I suppose it could be usefull.

Yeah OK. This game rocks. Really. I think we'll buy a second cable for multiplayer and there is another cheapshark reminder for when it goes on special again. Wish I had tried this a year ago.

I had to play around with the .ini file to get the latency to be reasonably low.

Yeah I also had to tweak the settings to get the latency to be acceptable. Lucky for me, the in-game settings were enough.

It seems you can only set the number of latency buffers in-game (1,2,3 or 4). The buffer size is by default 1024 and default number of buffers is 4. So at 48kHz that gives you 85ms latency. I set mine to 2 buffers of size 256 which should give 10ms latency. I adjusted the in-game lag compensation to match that. Feels much better.

Edit: I should add, this is on a mid 2014 13" Macbook Pro with the i5 processor and integrated Intel GPU running Yosemite 10.10.3. Your milage may vary, depending on OS and processor speed but I'm guessing most reasonably modern computers should be able to handle 5-10ms without buffer underruns (sound goes all scratchy and nasty).

Hah. OK. So, by default, the game splits your guitar input signal into 20ms chunks. It reads 4 of them THEN it processes it and adds the effects and plays it back to you. So the time between playing something and hearing it is 80ms. I set my game to read it in chunks of 5ms and to only read 2 chunks before processing and playback. So the time difference is 10ms, which is on the verge of being inaudible.

I'm running a Late 2011 Macbook Pro with Yosemite 10.10.2 + 16gb RAM and a SSD hard drive. It runs well and I'm pretty sure it can handle a very low latency setting.

(I'm a Mac newbie but a Linux old-hand so config files and the command-line don't scare me. I just pretty much know nothing about sound and hertz and stuff ?)

I'm quite content with the latency when I play but I do notice it from time to time.

In your ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/Rocksmith2014 folder is a file called Rocksmith.ini

change it to contain the following:

LatencyBuffer=2
MaxOutputBufferSize=256

Bear in mind if you change settings in the game it overwrites this file and you must change it again.

I already had LatencyBuffer set at 2, from within the game. So just had to add the BufferSize setting.

Looking forward to hearing what this sounds like later. Again - grassy ass!

Cool. You may have to change the in-game latency compensation to match. Also, you can tweak that number to any other power of 2. If the sound screws up, make it one power of 2 higher or make the buffer one larger.

With 1 copy you can play Bass Rhythm or Lead with 2 cables you can even do multi player with your single copy

What Lowkey said plus:

- Best place to buy cable, IMO, is Takealot.com. R316 and it gets delivered to your house in like 48 hours, free!

- Best place to buy the game is probably Steam. That's where I got it.

If you want it NOW, then you're about 2 days away from playing it (unless you shell out for faster shipping).

If you don't mind when you get it, do what ez did. Set up a notification for when there's a sale.

Personally I couldn't be bothered. It's like R700. I'll be playing it for months at least. Well worth it to me ?

(I never play games so saving money on a game doesn't matter to me because Rocksmith was a once-off thing, as opposed to an ongoing addiction, like GAS.)

Ja I was skeptical about it so I didn't want to shell out the full price so I set up a reminder on www.cheapshark.com to tell me when it goes on special somewhere. Definitely buy it on steam. Then your purchase is safe for years to come and it'll work on mac or PC. The cable may well arrive the next day if you buy it before 10 or 11 in the morning on Takealot.

I'm having a great time so far. 85% mastery on the Jack White track thus far. Mostly just the solo to learn now ?
