So......the story is this.......

Our tune 'I'd rather you hit me, than didn't touch me at all'
is well liked when our male vocalist sings it, but we have had Radio sessions cancelled, booing at gigs and all sorts of problems when our Female singer does it !!

Understandable as men are seldom seen as victims so the when man is singing it is just "quirky" or cheeky but the woman singing it perhaps brings up images of abuse instead of the same sort of quirky / cheeky attitude.

While men are sometimes victims of domestic violence it is much less common than for women. Furthermore, no one thinks it's ok for men to be beaten up by their partners - male or female - whereas a disturbing minority of people still think it's ok to hit women.

Personally I think no one should hit anyone else. It's just not ok.

It's strange because over the years we've seen a number of songs either vilify or exalt certain negative societal behaviors, and we're all adults so we get the idea of context. I mean I get that if a woman sang it then it could come across as a bit more risque, but isn't art meant to shine a light on things like that and make us go "oh wait a second".

Depending on the image of the radio station I could understand them not being too thrilled as they have an appearance in the public eye to be concerned about, but getting booed at gigs doesn't make sense to me, after all the vocalist is female and has every right to choose not to sing it.

Sensitive topic!
If a woman is singing the song, with the chorus lyrics being so direct, it may seem to be suggesting that it's OK to be hit if you're a woman which is a "no no", hence the booing perhaps?
If a guy is singing it seems to suggest that "you're physically stronger, so deal with it" which seems to be more acceptable to society?
