Hi there, I need help in setting up a small studio. I recently got a Studer 900 / 8 bus desk (Ex SABC) for R1,500.00 (yes the comma is in the right place). It,s a 22 channel desk and Iv'e got a M Audio Delta 6 in /6out sound card. The desk is not fully operational as only 7 channels are working perfectly.I am in the process of fixing the other channels. Now 7 channels Studer quality for that price IMO is a bargain. With the desk I also got a 17 x 24 input patch bay.The patch bay is not fully connected and I am not sure yet what I need. Obviously I would like to use a reverb and a compressor. Now from what I read all the inputs and outputs needs to be connected to the patch bay. The reverb I've got is a Alto Averb 24/32bit. Can I use the PFL OUT to connect the sound card or do I need to go to the tape out or the master out or the diffirent busses. I know I sound stupid and you guys are laughing at me for buying obsolete equipment. If I knew how to load a photo I would have done it.The mike I am using is a CAD E200.Did I waste my money or is there still hope for me?. I need all the help I could use .

With the patchbay life gets VERY easy.. Id connect all the outputs of the desk to the patchbay.. tape outs, aux outs and the buss outs. The inputs and outputs I'll also wire into the patchbay, and maybe try to get the 6ip's of the soundcard 'hard' patched to the 1st 6 busses of the desk.
Reverb also, ip's and op's on the patchbay. So all in all, wire all the op's and ip's of your gear on there.. or a s far as possible.. The ip's on the desk I wont bother with, excpet maybe for two channels, to be able to bring the reverb back into the desk from the aux outs. Or you can just hard wire 2 channels from the output of the reverb.
Master outs from the desk and soundcard is a bit of another thing.. Because you can put all 6 outputs of the sound card onto the patchbay, I'll do that and then go one of two ways.. either patch the 2 main outputs into the desk on two seperate channels.., or I wuld rather get something like the Samson or Mackie monitor controllers. And patch the desks outputs to there, and also the 1st two outputs from the soundcard to there.. Then you can switch between the 2 signals, and be able to 'hear' either the desk or the interface.
Hope this helps.
