I recently watch an acoustic show of David Gilmour. I've you've ever seen him in action you would have noticed how he bends his strings. (Just watching him makes my fingers hurt!)
My question is this: Is there anything one can do, other than using the correct string gauge, to make bending easier? (Specifically on an acoustic guitar) Like, maybe a different way of setting up one's guitar?

Imho, yes and no.
Yes you can set it up 'just right' which means action not so low you cannot get to the side of the string without pressing it down very hard but not so high you need to press hard to just get a string fretted. Yes you can refret the guitar to have frets that are high enough for you not to hit the fretboard while bending. Yes (for the same reason) you can scallop the fretboard.
But no, it will not be a lot easier ☹ and if your guitar has average fret height and action, 90% of the effects mentioned above will already be taken care of.
