Potentiometer (Pots) Replacement on a Marshall MG100DFX

Hi everyone,

Any ideas where i can find potentiometer replacements for my amplifier?

The model is a Marshall MG100 DFX

Would it be cheaper to try cleaning them out with a contact cleaner and see if they are still scratchy?

I know potentiometers have different values depending on the purpose they are used for, logarithmic, linear etc, is there a wiring diagram i can find somewhere online or would it be best rather to do a physical inspection and count the ones i need?

ALSO; I bought this amp second-hand recently and I'm still on the lookout for snags that need repair, anything in particular I need to look out for? I've read online that the fan seems to get noisy after a while, haven't had the problem, and hoping I never do.

Yes, try contact cleaner first. Scratchy pots are usually 'fixed' by just turning them, they get like that if they're not used. My older amps all scratch a bit (but I'm not really a knob turner )

If they refuse to work or make the amp cut out and the cleaner doesn't work, you may need to replace them, but on those amps they're likely to be soldered directly onto the circuitboard and that could be tricky to replace yourself. I'd find a schematic online to see what the values are. Then again, if you take it to a tech they can just check inside what the values and tapers are, it'll be written on the pots.

Don't screw around inside amps if you don't know what you're doing, they can hurt you even if unplugged.

Some circuitboards have large capacitors on them and those can bite ?
