P/U wiring mod - help please

Hi all,

I am an absolute greenhorn here, so bear with me.

I am looking to do a mod (or more likely have it done) to my LP similar to how Mick Jones of Foreigner has his. His is: "two mini toggle switches that deactivate each individual pickup in the middle position, bypass the volume and tone controls in the down position or activate the volume and tone controls in the up position. "

I would just want two-way switches activating or deactivating the vol&tone controls but I don't want to mess with the guitar top.

Could this be achieved with push-pull pots (I'm not sure how "isolated" the switching system is from the pot assembly and whether this would therefore be possible)?

The only other option I could think of would be switches like Page has under the pickguard: are these available at all?

I'm far from a expert, but it sounds like you want to do a "direct through" mod on both pups? I've done one on a bridge pup using a simple DPDT switch from Communica.

From what I read, you could use a push/pull pot too...search for "direct through" : http://www.premierguitar.com/articles/the-telecaster-mod-guide-1. Though, I quite like the idea of them "no load" pots from fender - I've never used one, but they seem like a happy middle ground?

Complicated one maybe, you could place a push pull switches on both tone and vol controls giving you 4 switches with a possible 9 (8+1) combinations including the pickup selector , 2 are used for splitting and the other 2 are used for the "blower" (Vol and tone bypass) circuit.

What makes it a bit more complicated on a LP is that the pickup selector sits after the tone and Vol unlike a Strat, SO in essence each pickup is a circuit on its own and only brought together via the selector switch ala neck, bridge and Neck +Bridge

By the way Jim's wiring was more about phase switching.... Too many options in my books for stage could be relevant for Studio work

Thanks guys. The "no-load" pots wouldn't be the answer, as my intention is really to be able to switch between a "fully open" sound and a sound where the V&T are rolled off.
