Girl from Ipanema solo guitar
acousticman
Hey so I did an arrangement of Girl from Ipanema, Brazilian/bossa nova/jazzy vibe, maybe slightly quicker then the intended slow laid back bossa feel.
I just did it with some friends recently in their home (one take so apologies to any perfectionists ?). Let me know what you think generally of the playing and the quality of sound, hoping to do some more little demo clips along the way. Enjoy ?

Very nice. Lovely playing and the sound is good.
If I have a note, it's that there could be a little more variation between verses—maybe getting a little looser in the middle before playing the head pretty straight at the end.
Very similar fingering to the way I used to play "Cheese" (as the jazz bastards playing the Mediterranean circuit called it) 20 years ago—only you do it
substantially
better...

Hey Mike thanks for the kind words and compliments and very good input.
You are right this arrangement as that rigidity of just literally repeating the A and B section as is, probably my classical training ? It would be more stylistically correct to have it as you say loosening up, that typical Jazzy variety, almost deviation/improv vibe and then back to the head with probably a more pronounced cadenza. Funny enough I do actually play some jazz and can improv etc. and tend do a bit of that when playing live, but for some reason I just did this one straight up ABAB when recording on this clip, in retrospect your point is well taken, good insight, shot.
I assume you still playing, what kind of stuff you play now?

Well, I was out of the country for 13 years so lost all by contacts. Currently playing a little "blues rock" (its actually a bit more varied than that) in a band that's getting ready to gig in the Cape Town area and looking for other opportunities to play anything vaguely in the rock'n'roll space...

very nice indeed.... great to see solo guitar still being pursued by musicians .... i thought it was a dying art left to us jazz dinosaurs great to hear your rendition ... nice tone too ...keep posting your stuff

Hey Keira thanks for the kind words, yes I also appreciate solo guitar stuff, the old fashioned way before the use of loop stations etc. ? challenging and rewarding. Would love to hear some of your stuff too sometime... hopefully will upload some more stuff, mix of classical and jazz. Good to hear from other likeminded musicians, rock on. 8)

Yes Keira, jazz on would be more appropriate ? I checked your solo stuff, nice playing (though the recording was a little soft, but that could also be my laptop) like the smooth playing. So do you play all over? I think your profile says you also teach, how's that going?
