Looking forward to having a listen to these and those in the advanced category. It's a pity there's no beginners this month, but good to see a good turnout for the other two!

Definitely something odd! Guitars were too low in the mix versus the drums (sounded at some parts like about 4 kits playing at once for that to be humanly possible haha), but I enjoyed the riffs, especially the one at about 0:30 - 0:48, that's an interesting sound.

Ronson

Loved this. You kept it really simple with just the acoustic and vocal, which complimented each other well. Shows that you don't need crazy polyrhythms to have a good rhythm section. It would be nice to hear this in the context of a full track though.

Burton

Very cool. You used panning to good effect. The track maintained a steady 4/4 throughout, but got my foot tapping. My only criticism is that the guitar parts seemed to blur the lines between rhythm and lead.

McKee

Good tone on this one. I'd be interested to know what mic was used on the amp. I would have liked the strum pattern to be combined with some other elements for some variation.

Garsed: this was pretty trippy, was like a frantic Pantera then into prog then into doom metal, I agree the guitars are too soft and you could pan them wide also, sound like everything is up the middle.

Ronson: I like the way you created an obvious pulse/rhythm without using any percussion all on the guitar, it sounds like one guitar (?) but two separate rhythmical pieces going at the same time, the main downbeat and then the little offbeat bits. If you sang at the same time that's pretty impressive.

Burton: reminds me of King Crimson a bit, nice multi-layered guitar parts each doing their own rhythm building up to a whole, the "clashes" always create interesting results/chords/discords. I think if you play this kind of thing really tight it will sound legit.

Mckee: I was waiting for this to go somewhere, but it still shows some rhythmical strumming, was pretty tight the whole way through.

Very technical. I like the signature changes - and those sudden stops. Very rhythmical. This does the theme very well. You also pulled the drum moments/rolls of quite well. Only gripe, the overall tone - I know this is a guitar forum, but if we can improve, then why not. The tone just sounded flat - maybe more mids or treble. Give some sparkle haha

Ronson:

Your guitar playing and strumming was very interesting, and very true to the challenge. The singing was a great touch too. This had a flaminco'ish vibe to it. I really enjoyed this tune.

Burton:

Wowzors - can someone say instrumental progrock. This reminds me so much of the Cape Town band Bataleur (dunno if they still around). They loved playing with rhythms. I'd like to hear more of this kinda output.

Mckee:

This had a ska vibe to it - I see you also chose to emphasise the guitar strumming more so than anything else. Very good. You did it solid. Its a strum that is not heard often. I think you could have emphasised it a bit more perhaps. But great entry.

So I was kind of in a rush and completely forgot to pan the guitars, totally noob of me, I know...

I recently bought a 2nd hand M-audio 4i n 4 out interface so I am much happier with my over all recording sound but my vst selection is rather limited. Can anyone suggest anything better than POD Farm for some sparkly guitarness?

oooh, and some mastering plug ins if possible

well done 'er body. im just happy i had something to enter after much debate with my insecurities.
I really hope that you all continue to enter the challenges this year (and hopefully convince a few others to enter too).
