Sounds like your guitar needs a setup.

Most techs can do it.. alternatively, dependingon location, there are some folks here on the forum that also do this.

Its likely a truss or bridge adjustment.. prob needs intonationdone, saddle height adjustment, truss tweak etc.. no big deal.. where are you located?

sounds like the nut slots may be cut too low?
it could be a bunch of things from frets, neck relief, low nut slots, trussrod etc.
generally not a serious problem and can be fixed.

Thanks for the replies guys. I tune the guitar to the standard pitch. I did buy it new and I live in Durban Kwa-Zulu Natal.

take it back and ask for a setup... dont try and adjust the truss rod... you might snap it.

Standard pitch... bought new... The shop you bought it from will surely make the necessary adjusment and no extra cost to you... I certainly would ?

I set up a second hand Cort a few weeks ago and the player was delighted.
He phoned me just yesterday to tell me there was a fret buzz when he detuned it to open G.
I reset the truss and fitted a shim under the saddle and no cost.
He's a happy customer again... 8)
*not trying to blow my own trumpet here, but happy customers is what keeps me going*

While any buzz can also be bad beginner's technique (just sayin' ?)...

Buzz at first fret is almost always nut cut too low. Buzz from 2 up is usually the truss needs loosening.

Either way, the shop will check/sort it out for you - it's under warrantee...

Not really. Still look in occasionally, but playing more guitars than talking about them these days...

Well I think I can see the problem, from what it looks like the neck seems straight. I tested it with a level. But from what I can see, the strings start off at a normal height above the fretboard but as the strings go further up towards the nut they become considerably lower. So I think the nut is a bit low.

So can anyone refer me to someone experienced in things such as raising the nut or how much it would cost?

I took some measurements and from estimations, the gap between the fretboard and string on the last fret is about 4.5 mm while the gap between board and string on the first fret is about 2 mm

Sounds like the truss rod needs to be relaxed a bit... There should be a slight bow.
The saddle can be lowered...
You want about 3mm from the top of the 12th fret to the bottom of the bottom E.

I need someone who can teach me to set up a guitar I am quite gatvol of paying an arm and a leg for people's incompentence. I'll d tuning 10 gauge and then they will put 11 gauge on standard tuning. I'll say for the my other guitar dropped C and make sure it's not bussing then low and behold it's buzzing. No man been playing for 13 year and still have this crap. If anyone is willing to teach me how to set up a guitar on a normal bridge (no tremolo) and a floyd rose bridge. i would be exremely greatful. My email ruanvv@yahoo.com
