One of my cables died on me this week.I tried to repair it, but it has a few breaks in it. I was considering buying a planet waves cables but they are pretty expensive. I've looked at George L's and Bill Lawrence solderless cable systems as well. Bill lawrence uses low capacentence cables to ensure signal quality. Looks like a good idea, but I really don't wanna go through the order and wait if I don't have too. Is there anyone who can make up cables of this sort locally? Any other opinions or options on cables ?

I've had it with cables. My beloved Fender cable has started crackling, so I started looking at buying some high end cables.

The good stuff costs +- 1000.

I was surfing the classifieds on a US forum and I found another XDS95 wireless unit like the one I currently have for $150 dollars. So that's it, I'm gonna buy 2 cheap cables as a backup and going wireless, guitar to pedalboard and pedalboard to amp.

In my books I only use Neutrik NP-2C or NP-2RC (90 degree) Jack plugs.

Expensive, but worth every cent. Never had to replace one in over 25 years of using them.

George L's are PHENOMENAL cables!
They seriously make your old cables sound like there's a blanket over your speaker.

If you can't find those then I suggest looking up Matta.
He put together some amazing cables for me with Amphenol jacks.

Don't know if anyone is still following this thread but here's an update.

I bought some mogami 2524 cable and amphenol jacks for a friend of mine. Considering the fact that I'd spent over R300 buying cheap cables the last few years, these are really good value for money. We tested them against my Fender cable and my cheapy and there's a big improvement in noise reduction and sound quality.

I subsequently came across a company in Randburg that supplies Sommer cables. Almost a third of the price of mogami and they look to be about the same in quality. Sounds like a bargain. The sales lady told me that Andy Mcgibbons is using sommer cables. Has anyone else tried this cable ?

Just spoke to the guys at Broadcast lines. The price they quoted me was incorrect. It works out to +- the same price as the mogami cable.

Also got myself some Mogami 2524 and neutrik jacks and made up some cables... money well spent! and obviously came in cheaper than buying the same quality cable in the store.

BTW....how have you folks found the longevity of the Amphenol jack plugs. I have just removed some in our church where they were installed the same time as some Neutriks. I see they did not last nearly as well and looked very worn and tarnished.

Anyone else experience this?

This is our first encounter with amphenol jacks. I'm gonna use Neutriks on my cable.

+1 on the Mogami and the amphenol stuff Joey.
Matt Allison (matta on the forum) made me a few cables early this year (mogami + amphenol jacks) and i was hearing stuff i hadn't heard before. Also, it sort of opened up the tone a little bit in that the guitar isn't bass heavy anymore.

Hey Tom,

Which jacks? There are several kinds, the most common being what the call the 'economical' plug, which I tend to use, which is gold plated, and then the aluminum ones, which weirdly are MORE expensive and tarnish easily... I find the economical ones offer the best durability and price/performance ratio.

Arjun, glad you are enjoying the cables! There is a shortage of the jacks in SA at the moment, I've been forced to use other ones for some other jobs, hoping they get stock soon!

The ones I took off look similar to the Neutriks and are probably the aluminium ones you are referring to.
