So I recently put some aluminum tape into the control cavities and pickup routs of an SX thinline telecaster, after reading a bit about shielding. After reassembling and re-stringing I plugged in and tried to play but unfortunately the only time I hear any sound is when the volume on the amp is full as well as full gain.
The problem occurs on both pickup selections. I have tried another lead and another amp and both have the same problem. The only real change has been the shielding, could it have caused a major volume loss? Correct me if I'm wrong but if a hot wire was touching a ground then there would be no sound? This is why I'm incredibly confused! ☹
Thanks in advance for any replies!

Check all the wiring with a Mag glass ..
You most probably have a thin strand of screen wire shorting out with the + wire or the + wire has broke off some where

seems like your shielding may have created some kind of short circuit, if the volume worked well before and then dropped after the shileding it may be making contact with a wire that is causing the problem.

Costa is right when tightening the pots, the lugs might be biting into the shielding causing the short......

Thanks for the help guys! Went through all the wiring and found the problem, as you said a small bit of wire was touching the shielding! Problem solved
