Headless DIY guitar kits locally available

So, I really want to find a cheap kit guitar like this

I like this ones body shape because I'm going to add some wings to it and simpler is better. Anyone know where I can get something like this locally?

I dunno about that, depends on your skill level...you'd have to source the bridge & nut, then mod the body to fit them both.

A thought about the parts, from what I've seen - cheaper versions of the steinberg's are not the most durable of creatures :-\

Thanks for the replies.

Im not overly concerned about quality on this project, it's more a proof of concept which is why I don't want to sink too much time into this, just a few weeks of modifying the design until it works. Then if it is a winner I will look at decent wood and hardware to make my proper guitar from this idea.

Maybe I'll mail the guys in the link and see if they can source something like this for me.

If it works out then I think it will look really really cool

One thing about my headless guitar & bass (hohners) that irritates me is the tiny range of strings you have to choose from. Hipshot do make headless bits too, although in a blue skies world...this fellow would supply me all the parts : http://strandbergguitars.com/. Someone on the forum recently did NDG with one of his 8 string bridges fitted with Piezo elements...drrrroooollll! I think it's around R3k for a stock 6 string bridge...Hmmmmm, one day maybe ?

I've never seen the Jcustom bits, I did trawl them a while ago when I was looking for a replacement bridge for my Hohner G2 and thought they were a touch pricey compared to the original and even the Ed Roman "re-issue". I'd defer the question to Alan...

Have you seen http://www.edroman.com/guitars/steinberger/parts.htm? Ed has evoked a lot of internet debate for some of his opinions - but he's one of the few who has original/nos steinberger parts.

Damn that's a lot of options hey? If I had the budget I would blow a shit load of money there.

A while ago I tried to buy blue prints of their "Ninja" guitar which is a copy of the BC Rich Stealth which is my dream guitar from Ed Roman and they said that they dont sell plans which was a bummer. So I had to use cad and corel draw to scale up a small picture...

Well that's a pretty large hint of what I'm planning to do as far as the shape goes... I'm hoping that going headless will address the neckdiving issue with the stealth shape guitars, I'm going to spend a lot of tme balancing it out.

I'll post some concept pics when I'm happy with them.

Loads of options...too many almost! And all I wanted to do was replace the broken bridge on my old Hohner G2, but economically it worked out better to get another shreddy-flavoured guitar.

I'm not hung-up for the headless vibe for the guitar...but it's another story on the bass - there I feel it's essential :? For exactly the reason you mention - anti-neck diving. The Jack bass just sits where ya put it. And the 32' scale is real comfy for me.

Keep us updated on the progress - keen to see what you come up with. I like the shape of Alan's Sanox (http://www.ratcliffe.co.za/gear/sanox/index.shtml), Mockingbird-esque to my eye.

If you do organize parts, I'll join in on a order for those string adaptor's, I havn't got one for the bass yet and I really want to stick on a set of exilir's.
