I had a set of protec-ear ear plugs made for me around 2006.
I went to an audiologist in fourways who took a casting of my ear canal and they then made me a set of custom ear plugs to fit me perfectly.
Protec-ear offer different options for musicians, factory workers and so on.
I told them I was a musician, that I played guitar in a live band and the exact application I would be using the plugs for.
They are perfect. I'd not say they suck tone at all, in fact they attenuate just the right places so that the mix I hear always sounds incredible. It's like having a little sound dude in my head.
I no longer play in a live rock band, but still use my plugs whenever I go to watch bands...and the mix is always better with them in that with them out.
I can not recommend this kind of product more enthusiastically. I think it cost me R700 in total, and I don't regret it for a nanosecond.
