ibanez release 9 string

not sure if anyone else picked up that ibanez released a new 9 string model a little earlier this year ?.

How do you accommodate such low frequencies?
On the 9th string; That sounded so flubby and loose-sounding. Almost tonally indistinguishable, to my ears at least.

Chad or any other 8-string slingers need to chime in to clarify.

I've seen it mentioned on the interwebs (so it must be true ?) that peeps often don't use "traditional" amps, but prefer amp models for this reason. The problem is my brain retains the randomest things I've read/heard so it could just be someone joking on a forum somewhere...lol.

I did find the tones a bit flubby wubby on the lower strings. He did mention that one would perhaps need to change the string gauges or tunings on the lower strings.

At a point, when it comes to number strings, I (personally, and this is the internet so I'm allowed an opinion... lol) feel you should just get a second instrument (I.e. bass)... It starts feeling like "jack of all trades master of none" thing... But that's just me. I definitely dig some 7 and 8 string chug from time to time still.

I went to check out this Ibanez beast and i must say its quite a nice thing to look at. not at all my taste but i can appreciate it for what it is. As far as amps go. an amp model will work or a bass amp.. something that can handle those frequencies. im not at all a hater here im sure there is a use for it otherwise it wouldnt be on the market but i really dont see it.

Hopefully somebody can shed some light on this for me .

If you need a 9 string to express yourself, or to play the songs you need to play, then you should definitely own a 9 string!
If the scale length is long enough and the pickups good enough then it shouldn't sound too flubby.
It looks great for multi-finger tapping, or some 5 string bass lines.

Personally I'm happy with 8 strings but if someone gave me one for free I probably wouldn't sell it ?

hey 9 strings are cool ......... way cool

BUT me i'm waiting for the hybrid 8 string guitars to become more available ...3 x bass guitar strings and 5 guitar strings with fan frets ....

and artists like charlie hunter do great work on the hybrids...... so Ibanez bring out the fan fret hybrids ? one customer here for sure
