attention k-mart shoppers...

a buddy of mine is looking to replace guitars he offloaded before making the move to noo zellund. he's pretty much got these two guitars on his list and has asked my opinion on what other guitars might suit his needs. his needs being:
- single cut, les paul-style
- rock to hard-rock
- solid guitar, able to hold up and not be 'babied'

he knows i have tokais, and has looked for them in welleengtunn to compare, but they seem to be a little hard to come by in the lower antipodes.

any other makes/models i should advise him to add to the list, i'd appreciate the input.

If he knows and likes Les Pauls, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a Japanese Tokai, even sight unseen. They are that consistent.

Otherwise the SE 245 is a good'un (swap pickups to taste). A more modern instrument - not quite a Les Paul, but the best thing in the style under R10K.

being a PRS fanboi I would say get the SE, Get the SE!

I have been thoroughly impressed with the SE range and the 245 is no different.

another rad one id say is the fret king eclat 2 http://fret-king.com/blue-label.html odd looking MF but also pretty rad.

And I know you said no tokai's but come on thats the pinnacle of it all!

Why doesnt he maybe even try a black top tele?

It might be worth looking at S2 PRS's depending on their cost over there.

that s2 range is quite interesting. was considering a 'starla' - absolutely fell in love with a core series one, and was a bit naff about having to go '2nd best' on an s2 series starla. but then, prs has made a habit of making really great 'lower end/entry level-ish' versions of their guitars.

anyway, my mate has gone with the lpj; couldn't find an se245 or a tokai to speak of in welleengtunn. (lance - opportunity knocking bro?)
