Hi All,
Some of you will recall that earlier this year, I ended up buying unseen, a couple of large boxes of valves from the family of an old electronics/HAM radio enthusiast who had become too frail to continue to pursue his hobbies.
I've finally begun to sort through these boxes. Well, the first box at least, and I've made a list which I've pasted below. I've also started testing them and so far I've found very few duds, which seems to confirm what the gent's daughter told me when I bought them, that "Her dad was always testing and sorting his valves.", so this was an actively managed stash, not just a box of old junk that should have rather been dumped.
Some of the valves are in branded single boxes, others boxed together in bulk boxes, but most are in individual white boxes marked "E.R.V Supplies, or "Electronic Radio Valve Supplies", if that means anything to any of you. I'm assuming he sourced them from this particular supplier who bought them in bulk and packaged them in their own boxes.
Some valves show some signs of use, some have some tarnishing on the pins and others look like they have never been used. Where the valves have the branding clearly visible on them, I have mentioned it in the list below. Where the branding is illegible or absent, I have left this blank. Having dated some of them, I can safely say that what is listed below were all produced from the 1930's-1970's.
Having done some research, there are certainly some very rare and indeed valuable ones amongst this stash.
Ok, so why am I telling you all this? Well, I did indicate when I bought them that I would make some available to other active GFSA members. Having experienced the joy of buying, sorting and testing old valves in my amps and having in many cases been blown away by how awesome they make the amps sound compared to new production stuff, I would like as many of these valves to find their way into active use instead of sitting around in a box gathering dust.
So, this is not a classified ad, else it would have probably been advertised elsewhere with the aim of attracting maximum revenue. I'm thinking of this as a public service announcement, but if Admin disagrees then I apologise and will remove this post.
I haven't decided what I want to keep. I don't have prices in mind either. The way that I thought of doing this was to invite you to contact me if you are interested in any in particular and we can take it from there. I do have a tester and have tested some already, but unfortunately it cannot test all the different kinds. I also have limited amp types I can physically try them in. I figure that I would offer them in different ways and at different prices, beginning with a "potluck" basis, which is how I bought them all, moving up closer towards market prices, depending on the amount of time and effort I have to go to to test them. Sound fair?
Phew, ok. I think that's all I wanted to say. Here's the list:
