Hi Guys, I’m new to the forum and thought this is the ideal place to get some advice from you clever people. I used to play a bit of guitar but nothing fancy just normal cords probably about 12 years ago. Now the bug got me going again and I’m looking to buy a guitar and go for some lessons. So I will appreciate your help on what guitar is a good buy and where in Cape Town can I go for some lessons to get up to speed again and improve. I probably don’t want to spend more that R2k on a guitar and would prefer something with a wider “neck” since i struggle with the thin ones. Where in town can I go for a good deal on n guitar? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Yes there are some very pretty guitars hanging in the shops for around R2k new,
but don't be "taken in" by a pretty Chaiwanese fake. They're assembled from machined bits instead of the handcrafted pieces from the last century.
I have regularly found used guitars for R1k that played and sounded better than
a R2k new one...

erm... Welcome smerds. I can help, but it takes time finding that guitar. If you're not experienced the sight of a hundred beauties hanging on a shop wall can be quite daunting. No doubt there are those who could easily fork out megabucks for a genuine USA model, but if it's ok with you I'll help you find a good used guitar for R2k. :-\
