Hi Guys, I’m new to the forum and thought this is the ideal place to get some advice from you clever people.
I used to play a bit of guitar but nothing fancy just normal cords probably about 12 years ago. Now the bug got me going again and I’m looking to buy a guitar and go for some lessons.
So I will appreciate your help on what guitar is a good buy and where in Cape Town can I go for some lessons to get up to speed again and improve. I probably don’t want to spend more that R2k on a guitar and would prefer something with a wider “neck” since i struggle with the thin ones. Where in town can I go for a good deal on n guitar?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Manfred-Klose

These are the places I know about....Most of them will give you a good deal on a starter pack of some sort..Ibanez or Cort are good ones to start with ?

Welcome Smerds.
As Manfred suggests, give us a few more details and also let us know the music you are into and I'm sure we can come up with something for you.

Welcome aboard! Yup we'll need a little more detail to be able to recommend something ?

Thanks for the response guys and here I sit thinking I have probably given to much info, he he.
I’m in Vredehoek, CT and work in the CBD. Looking to get steel string acoustic guitar and don’t really have major preference in music just like to mess around and play some lekker music, but don’t see myself rocking the stage with some heavy metal ?
Also look to get something slightly better than the box, guitar, bag and tuner deal......
LMinnie
keep your eyes on Gumpole..deals pop up quite often...
Sadly for the price you quoted it might be hard finding something new that isn't one of the combo packs..

A normal steel string acoustic for R2k? Sounds doable, won't be amazing but won't be bad either. I held a few very nice Yamaha and Cort acoustics the day I bought the MR which were both in the 2k range and sounded very nice. But I wanted an electric/acoustic so I had to bend the cc a little further. Hehe
Oh and very very welcome! 8)

Hi Smerds, welcome to the forum. Agree with the Cort and Yamaha brands around 2k. Also have a look at some Tanglewoods - I think they are good value for money as well.
AlanRatcliffe
+1. Cort and Yamaha. Yamaha is the bigger "name" brand so will hold value better if you sell it. Cort gives you a little more quality for your money in the same price range.
FatBoy
Have a look at Cort acoustics, they really do offer a lot of bang for your buck. I wasn't impressed with the Yamaha's in the 2-3K range.
Heath
cort's are very good for there price and extremely playable

+1 Tanglewoods! Think you'll get a fairly decent one for 2k. Rather spend more on the guitar and buy accessories later. you can always buy them bit by bit. (IMO)
Welcome!

I echo the Cort advice.

Welcome Smerds - I don't have any sagacious advice on which guitar to buy but will add that Marshall music in Buitengracht street is your closest store and that the guys there are very helpful.
