We have more power in our bedrooms than even the top analog studio's from a few years back ever had....(only thing we don't have is huge mic collections and acoustic control.....but there's even plugins for THAT now, IK Mulitmedia's ARC, and Antares Mic Modeler, so go figure!)
The mic modeler's are cool.. but they still dont sound the same!! It's nice to have a condenser at home, record and then make it almost sound like a U87.. But its still not an 87. I've done blind test with the anteres one, and im still devided. cool toy, but only a toy.
Theres a reason a top quality mic can set you out at least R27000. And anyone who says that they can use a 58 and by using the Modeler on it make it sound like a U47, C414 is misguided.
But digital have come along in leaps and bounds. One must remember though that mr. Clearmountain is recording through High class mic pre's, at probably 88.1kHz. A good analog desk back in its day still beats the hell out of most digital desks, due to the mic pre's.
Give me a Neve desk any day of the week! :?
