I'm keen to make 2 changes to the forum that will affect everyone...
- 1. Subscriptions - Change everyone's account so you get emailed when someone replies on any thread you've posted on. This will leave us with less abandoned threads and more interaction from our existing members which, of course, is important in order for this forum to reach it's true potential. (Only a small subset of members are active on the forum. Some have never logged in since signing up or since their first post)
Full marks for thinking about the forum and about making the forum livelier and richer.
The subscription feature seems like a double-edged sword to me. For those of us who do log in most days and spend some time reading and replying it could end up being intrusive. However there are situations where such a feature would be useful, and so there should be an option for it. Maybe it would be worth considering enabling it by default and allowing an "opt out" radio button or check-box.
I think it's a fact of life that on-line forums have more lurkers than active participants. I think that mirrors real life actually - in any situation where a subject is discussed you will find more people just sitting nodding (or shaking) their heads or shouting agreement than actually involving themselves actively.
Not that there's anything wrong with trying to change that, but understand that's how it often is so that you don't feel that lack of active participation on the part of the members doesn't reflect on YOU.[/list]
