Chabenda, I might not be the person to objectively give you an answer. I'm a sucker for lyric-heavy artists such as Loudon Wainwright III. And the early Dylan.

I think great music can be art and entertainment.

Lyrics aren't everything (did I say that?). I give you AC/DC, you don't listen to them for profound lyrics, but you listen to them. I don't think the Stones lyrics are seriously bad, but it's not the reason I listen to them.

? I went to see Reinhardt Buhr (a.k.a. Wild Lettuce) last weekend. When a punter at the bar saw me asked: "So what do you think? Could you take him?". >☹ I counted to five and said "He's great, but music's not a competition".

I met Reinhardt after the show and we had a great chat on using electronics as part of a show, then we traded Rasgueado techniques and ended up promising to share a gig some time. Much more productive than head cutting. ?

I've got a friend who has worked as a professional cellist. She's always reminding me that you don't need to be at the top of classical musical training to make good music. Often there's something that bands do that sounds simple, but is actually really tricky to replicate. It's not just about entertainment. It's about whether you can convey to an audience what is supposed to be exciting about the music. That's what separates great 'unskilled' bands from the hundreds that are just rubbish.

There's no better example than The Ramones. The Ramones captured a raw spirit of rock 'n roll and put it across in a way that still sounds fresh. This despite the lack of anything within a light-year of virtuosity.

But yeah. This list is definitely satire and some of it is quite funny. Ask yourself: if it wasn't satire, who do they have left?

A band I really enjpy(ed) is Frankie Goes to Hollywood..... most of them could not play an instrument (it is alleged) when it went thru the roof........

So ability (to play an instrument) and an ability to entertain are not the same thing....

To me The Beatles are phenomenal any way you look at it... For fate to land those personalities and singer/songwriters together at that time & place - hard to fathom. Closer to untouchable really. As is Dylan... I stopped looking around then realizing the list was compiled by a half-wit. Surely can't be 'satire' because satire is usually some kind of useful commentary with a comedic edge. The article is plain clueless.

Shoutout to Chabenda and X-rated Bob for telling it like it is. :applause:

Three years later Rolling Stone readers rated the same album as the 16th best album of all time.....

She was a radical conceptual artist. Her music is an extension of that. It was never intended to be pretty. He got with "that" because he was more intrigued by a woman who was his intellectual equal than by women who'd made the cover of Vogue.

Its even simpler... taste differs!!! I love a lot of the bands on that list, agree with a lot, U2 IMHO are the worst...Beyonce OMG!!!How did she and Madonna get into Music is the question? Ac/DC?? I love them, sounds the same, its a winning recipe, if a band is going for 40 odd years...if you're bad as a muso, you're not gonna last. yaaaaaa....lists, and then again, tongue in cheek Almost 50%of the bands on that list are legends, you put most of it in your record player, and most people will say, thats F%^&*( awesome stuff...
