I was trying out some stuff on my effects over the weekend and I found that the lower output of my Anniversary edition's Dynasonic pickups were'nt giving me the sounds I was looking for. I stuck my CS-3 compressor at the start of the effects chain and tried using it as a booster. It definitely helps with boosting the input signal but tends to change the tone a bit too much for my liking.
What booster pedal would you guys suggest to compensate for the different input strengths of my guitars. It's a pain to adjust the settings on my pedals every time I switch guitars.
I've looked at the MXR Micro Amp and it looks like good value for money. Any comments / recommendations ?
There are some really nice ones that dont affect the tone. Carl martin, MI Audio has nice booster pedals that just boosts your signal without altering the tone. The carl martin booster uses a standard 9v jack. They should be around R1000, go try one out at Andy Mcgibbons and ask for a "deal" if you like it. They should give you 15% off. Otherwise if you want, just try it and i can organise your 25% discount at another shop where i know everyone well.
+1 on the Carl Martin. The Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster pedal is another popular one for clean boost. Slight change to the tone, but fairly neutral.
My buddy knows Andy, so I'll probably go with him when I get a chance. He's also a big Carl Martin fan. Thanks for the info guys.
Its cool. You can never go wrong with carl martin, their sturdy, build like tanks, handmade and they sound awesome. Hope you come right 🙂
Hey dude, i also have a carl martin boost and drive. So i tested it out yesterday ( The boost and drive are separate ). I played it clean, overdrive, distortion to test it for you. It did not alter my tone in any way. So going to test just the carl martin booster pedal should result in you finding exactly what you want 🙂
I've decided to go for a ZVEX Box of Rock. It has booster built into the pedal and can be switched on and off independantly of the overdrive. It's a great pedal and works out way cheaper than buying a separate drive/distortion and booster pedal of the same caliber.
